Day Out 2- Jakarta_ Tanah Abang_ Mangga Dua

 15 September 2012,

This is the second week me and my friends have been in Indonesia, and without wasting our precious time, we decided to go Jakarta.

As early as 7am, we gathered and took public transport to Jakarta.

Our journey starts by taking Angkut (Kampus Dalam) to Laladon,
at Laladon, we took Angkut (03) to Station Bogor,
from Station Bogor we took train- aka Kereta towards Jakartakota,
and we made our 1st stop at Tanah Abang.

 Outside of Station Bogor

The very long and frequent train,
and is made in Japan =)

Our 1st stop- Tanah Abang ( direct translation: Brother's Land) is one of the famous shopping places for locals and tourist to hunt for cheap and fashionable local attire. This tourist sport is similar to a flee market, and regarding my friends, the clothes sold here are cheaper compare to our home land.

we reached Tanah Abang Train Station at 9.30am in the morning

left: commuter line
right: free hp charging area
Fresh greeted us once we stepped out of the station

The products sold here include,
Batik menswear and woman ware, jubah and tudung for Muslim women, formal attire, scarf, T- shirts, etc.

This shopping place is very big and crowded.(I wouldn't advise you to bring children along, but if you have no other choice, please make sure that your children are stuck with you 24/7)

As the saying goes, nothing is perfect, this place is damn hot and stuffy, I almost got a heat stroke. The stalls are all scattered and not organized properly which somehow forms a maze, causing me to lost sense of direction before finding the way out.

After we are done with our shopping, we went to have lunch at the roadside stalls,
as picture tells a thousand words:

you see it alright,
Mee Bakso
aka Beef Ball Noodles
The beef ball is almost as big as an apple,
juicy and springy once we bite,
and is filled with beef flavor to the max.
guess what, only rp10,000 (RM3.30)

Liling ordered Gado- Gado (mix vegetable / rojak sayur) with rice.
Vegetables such as long beans, onion, cabbage, taufu, cassava, etc are mixed with their special peanut sauce.
The portion served is amazingly huge, and both of us are unable to finish it.

Our lunch:
left: Mee Bakso
right: Gado- Gado
Pampek, a local snack made from cassava flour with filling in it,
I haven't got the chance to try it yet, but I am sure I will get a taste of all food available here before the program ends.

The gang, paying after having their great meal.
The mini public transport for hire,
but I have forgotten its name.

to be continued...

we were welcomed and picked up by the ex- MIT program student, Andika.

It took us about 3 hours to travel from the airport to our hostel in IPB- Institut Pertanian Bogor, which is the place where we will be gaining precious knowledge and experience while having the chance in learning other culture.

Tadaah... finally we reach our hostel (Asrama Internasional - IPB)

and yes, we were warmly welcomed by this pretty garden situated outside the hostel.

my room !

teehee, my room ^^
amazingly, it comes with an attached bathroom

Everything is just so perfect here, I really cant complain much except for the Wifi. The problem is that I cant get internet connection in my room, thus I have to go to the living room, which I felt little troublesome.

Anyway, I am thankful to have such a nice place to stay through the program, with good hospitality provided by the locals. Did I mention about the locals, they are just so kind and friendly.
